I remember why I so thoroughly enjoyed this series and wanted more, even though after brain injury, it was difficult (ok, impossible) to keep the plot in my head. It’s very satisfying to see all the characters and their interconnections in head and build up the big picture with so many in play. I solved it, but this series is about more than enjoying the mystery. It’s also about enjoying the people.

Good reading. Characters are vividly drawn. The diction suits our idea of the time. Dialogue enthralls, and plot moves swiftly. I stopped to review the whole story up to chapter 15 as Lindamood-Bell used to do with me in the latter part of the visualizing and verbalizing training. Helped to grasp better who was who and their connections. It confirmed my suspicion on whodunnit. Read a lot Sat to destress. Glad I could

I read this series so long ago, and reread it. Even though I remember the main character Isaac, I can’t recall which daughter became the second main character. I only recall I wanted Caroline Roe to write more in the series! The Prologue begins with the Black Death in the era when the world population dropped, the only time it did. The scene resonates differently now we’re in a pandemic also badly controlled.
