ahhh i love this section. and i get that a book is in many parts and each parts important blah blah blah this second half is hitting so much harder than the first imo. this is the most authentic characterization of feyre, seen in her struggle to save tamlin. her motivations are so clear now; her empathy expanding, her instincts sharpening. her love for him ringing clear. this is great

“i loved tamlin and i would go to the ends of the world to save him” 🥺🫶🏽 the way so much has happened within the span of a chapter!! i absolutely love the little twist, and it was very satisfying. imo a good twist is one you can see coming if you pay enough attention, and that’s exactly what happened. so invested invested in what’s next.

it's so fun tracking the ways it follows BATB (and the ways it departs). my one yearning, and this goes for all fantasy novels, is for more female friendships and for them to be highlighted more. this recent chapter where feyre's home with elaine was heartwarming asf, especially when feyre says that she feels elaine is stronger than her for her ability to stay kind. i hope her sisters become more important figures

“i want you here where i can look after you. where i can come home and know you’re here, painting and safe” okay fine tamlin you ate that up!! i will say, he def says stuff that rubs me the wrong way but i love that feyre actually pushes back and will acknowledge his faults. i hate the whole “do as i say” w zero explanation bc feyre WILL listen if she just received more info! isn’t that obvious?!?

the main character is super interesting: i love a little moral ambiguity (altho i’d say she’s def trying her best to do the right thing). i just like that she’s uncertain of it. i don’t like the tired trope of “mc who’s wise and knows all” vs “naive girl who’s out of her depths”. like tamlin calls her a fool and unremarkable. but she was literally kidnapped, not knowing who to trust..??

imo, the first half dragged on a bit just in the sense that bc the reader and feyre has so little information, it’s honestly hard to latch onto anything positive bc i’m still unsure of tamlin at that point. i also feel like while fire night was good for showing how fucked up the fey are, i still strongly dislike the way tamlin attacks feyre and would argue it’s an unnecessary scene, that only perpetuates a really overdone and harmful trope; i do like that again, i don’t feel mass is romanticizing this moment, but feyre should have felt more disgust, more fear. there should’ve been more of a confrontation and consequences to their relationship. but this second half of the book— i appreciate how much feyre has grown. i would like tamlin to, too.
