Ch 15 - Homage to Catalonia was so dear to Orwell's heart but it only sold 700 copies in the first 6 months of publication. Orwell was perplexed...such an important book and nobody cares. Is a bullet wond in the neck that almost killed him worth his indignation...strong displeasure at something considered unjust?

Read ch 11 last night and discoverd how Eric Blair choose his penname! 9 hours left to read on this audio version. Perfect book when you cannot sleep...narrator’s accent sounds snobby English...but I love it! It sets the tone b/c Orwell was obsessed with class.

Ch 1-8 Early life, at St. Crispin's school and Eton,, later serving as royal police in Burmua. Orwell leaves civil service, to his father's dismay, and is dertermined to become a writer. Ch 8 sees him in Paris en filthy flat in Latin Quater. His "lady friend" just stole all his money and luggage and Orwell is literally "Down and Out in Paris....!"
