“Late in August 1901, 18-year old Chester Gillette stopped off to see his grandfather, Leonard Rice, in Davenport, Iowa.” HOWEVER, p. 17-18 state that Chester’s mother, Louise, “took Chester and his younger brother, Lloyd, on a trip to Davenport, Iowa in 1885 to visit her sick father, Leonard, fifty-three…they stayed with him several months, but after Leonard DIED they returned to Montana.”
