(1) This is a much more consistent issue than the first one. No real highs and no real lows.
(2) Seemingly, the purpose of this was to establish the wide-ranging scope of elements and characters involved in the story.
- Otherwise, there's no real purpose to seeing Oa (the center of the universe), or transporting mammoths from the prehistoric past to the 30th century.
