The author's purpose in writing this book was to show us another world. One that is full of Magic. The author wanted to show us an amazing place that could not be in our modern society. People read fantasy books to escape into another society of things we can't possibly do such as fly on a broom or shoot spells from a wand.I think the author is trying to show us a differect world to expand our imagination and creativ

I personally cannot relate to the character in this book. I cannot imagine living in a small cupboard under the stairs and being mistreated for years my family. The things in Harry's life and mine are not at all alike. The only things we have in common are that we both play sports. Harry plays quiditch and I play baseballl. Other than that though I can't relate much to his character.

I am reading this book because it is a fantasy and my friends always talk this book and I would like to understand them. The book has been interesting. I was slightly confused about the prologue chapter where Harry was left on the Dursly's front porch. I enjoyed the books description of Harry's life and how the Durslys treated him. Now the magic is starting with all the letters, the owls and the appearance of Hagrid.
