"we recruited [...] twelve women who had never been traumatised, and who also did not take meds, a surprisingly difficult control group to find"

Merry It's also interesting reading some of the reviews of this book from women's accounts.

Imogen Yeah, I saw some of the bullying allegations. The book itself reads fairly neutrally and scientific, I didn't get a sense of misogyny from it to be honest, but maybe in person he was an arse

Merry Oh no, sorry - was referencing an earlier chapter of the book. The author's use of (descriptive) language to describe the appearance of various women affected by sexual violence.
Separately uncritically discussing the soldier's actions, given he was in a position in which he could've done that productively.

Merry Undeniably it's one of those books people are very likely to hear about when discussing trauma, as the author is well situated in that field.

Other post recommendations I've seen if it's of interest in the future:

What My Bones Know, Stephanie Foo
Who Is Wellness For?, Fariha Róisín

Imogen Ahh thanks for the alternative recommendations. I remember the veteran chapter but have been listening to the audiobook on my commute so possibly zoned out at certain points. I probably don't quite take in as much subtext in audiobook format. Do you know which chapter it was where he described the women?
