"But still," Ayumi said, "it seems to me that this world has a serious shortage of both logic and kindness."
"You may be right," Aomame said, "But it's too late to trade it in for another one.”
"The exchange window expired a long time ago," Ayumi said.
"And the receipt's been thrown away."

Slow but still easygoing.
Not sure what the goal might be, or if it's even within plausible reach within 200 or so pages left...
Plot slowly trudges on, but the wider context is not even hinted at.

"The rules of the world had already changed."
"Anything could happen after that."

there was a metaphysical infodump...
still unsure as it isn't attached to anything of substance yet.

Reading both forward and backwards to go through the first part I already read two years ago.
It's a "fun", effortless read. Though I wonder if there's some substance to it.

6 months reading Miss MacIntosh and struggling to maintain 8 pages read/day
Now back to this and I've read more than 60 pages in two days effortlessly. Although there's easily at least twice as much text on a Miss MacIntosh page...
Went back a few chapters to re-familiarize with the story, since I read the first part two years ago. It's already nicely coming together. Full re-read, these 900 pages won't last long.

Got to the end of book 1, of 3.
I quite enjoyed it and would like to go on, but I delayed Bakker #5 for this.
The plan is now to read all of Bakker #5 and then come back to this to go through the remaining 600 pages at once, then Bakker again until the end.
...Might mean I'll be with Bakker until August or so, since I'll likely read other stuff in parallel.
And that will be myself familiarizing with... Modesitt.

>> I mean, this implies a duality, what things looked like before, and what things looked like after. And a matter of shifting perception.
But don't let APPEARANCES fool you, because things are NOT what they seem.
The appearance of things, AFTER her shift, would imply a confirmation, that finally she sees things other than they appeared. But then this appearance is also invalidated, because there's one reality.
