How does one change the 'to read' marking? I can't change it out for anything else except 'currently reading' and 'read'. I ended up deleting the book from my books. Sigh.

Isn't there the " edit" choice underneath?

If you are on a pc, all the way on the bottom left corner of the review window is an option to remove book. On a cellphone, you click the list of markings and the last option is to remove book.
If you want something other than to-read or currently reading, you have to create the shelf and make it exclusive.
