Walcott peers at Empire, as well as aging. And as poems flow together in sequence, it almost feels like aging move between Empire and nature, that aging is a type of colonization of the body, that death is to be taken over. But Walcott move from despising it , to acceptance to nature, to Empire, to acceptance and back, like the ebb and flow of tide in his beloved islands. This is a fantastic collection.
