The writing so far is very simple and direct, almost to a fault and can get a bit dry and long at times. But occasionally there are beautiful descriptions of emotions. I find the use of Arabic for all the univ.-specific language a lil weird. (Jihad, mehdi, etc…) probably don’t have the same impact w me as non Arab/muslim readers. I hate that a lot of things are spelled out. Not too much mystery/reveal. Still fun

I am so far finding myself caring almost exclusively about Paul and his relationship to destiny and prophecy and there are several individual moments that I think I’m enjoying. I barely remember or care about Duncan Idaho so far but he’s talked about as if he matters, so there may be something in later books. Otherwise it’s been super enjoyable this far. The Baron is fun. Jessica is well written.
