Alright. It’s spring. It’s time to finish this book that’s taken almost a whole year to read. I find it ironic that this last customer’s letter request is to formally cut all ties with a friend(絶縁状), basically like me with this book. 10 pages a day so I can be finished in 8 days.

Burning letters like a memorial service. 手紙供養。 It’s probably necessary for a 文具店。 It seems more appropriate to hold a ceremony rather than just throwing them in the trash. Finished the winter section!

The amount of times I’ve read お茶を注いだ (poured tea) is astounding. I can only handle so many descriptions of pulling out tea, calligraphy brushes, and round stools so many times. This was not a good pick for me

After several months, I finally picked this book back up. It's not bad, per se, it's just not interesting to me. There's a 男爵 older man that keeps showing up. In English, it translates to "baron." He gives off old-gentleman-with-a-top-hat-but-kind-of-snobby vibes.

Lol it wouldn’t be a slice of life Japanese novel if there wasn’t extensive praising of the four seasons. Finally finished the summer chapter and now onto fall.

I don't know enough calligraphy vocabulary words, nor do I know all the occasions for which people send letters in Japan, to jump easily right into this book. But hopefully I can still power through for the underlying story. This novel is a huge seller in Japan, likely for being about a quaint stationary store in a community.
