So far absolutely brilliant - a compelling and v readable account of the colonization and exploitation of Equatorial Africa along the Congo. The perfect balance of academic scholarship and storytelling albeit slight overemphasis on 3 individuals.
What is clear is that a lot of 'exploration' was very violent & missions of civilisation/Christianity/commerce were thinly veiled excuses for rabid resource extraction.
