Magnus and Randolph try to drive away from the scene, but they are too slow. Surt attacks Magnus and kills him. Magnus wakes up in the afterlife. His journey around the nine Norse worlds begins.

The setting of of the story varies throughout the story. The story takes place in Boston, Valhalla, and the nine worlds of the Norse gods. Magnus meets friends in Boston and Valhalla, and they travel across the nine worlds in search of finding a strong rope to keep the Fenris Wolf from escaping his prison. If the Wolf gets free, he will destroy the world. Magnus is stressed and makes rash choices.
