The protagonist’s experience writing copy for the back of rice cracker packets is delightfully and unexpectedly one of the most hellish jobs I’ve read about in a novel. We all know marketing sucks for society and for the person doing it, but writers generally limit their criticisms to “why” it sucks, not “how” it sucks.
