I just finished chapter 20. I was afraid of and very unprepared for the violent outburst in a book hasn't had many such scenes thus far. I feel so uncertain about continuing now. I'll put it aside for the evening and give myself a little time to get over the shock.

I just took a peek at the blurb and some reviews for the next book in the series, Eidolon, and it definitely sounds like there's going to be more "action" in that part. I'm not sure anymore if I want to continue. Let me think about this a bit more.

I'll read it eventually either way, so if you decide not to read it right now, I can let you know how bad is it later. I didn't read that much from Grace Draven but her Fallen Empire series were really dark and violent so I guess nothing is out of question, even though I really thought and hoped that this series will be more cozy.

Okay, I checked (just skimmed and also started to write the comment before finishing hence the messiness of it) and there is more violence in Chapter 21, especially in the beginning but there are some more casual mentions later on. And okay... (view spoiler)[one of the important characters was tortured, I don't believe the torture was on page, but the physical descriptions of the results are (hide spoiler)]. That's at the end of Chapter 21. I think it might be best for you to skip Chapter 21 and go straight to Chapter 22 (I didn't check, but plot-wise it wouldn't make sense for the violence to continue there). I can sum up Chapter 21 for you without the violent details if you want.
