First time with Ligotti for me. Haven't even seen True Detective yet. Some of this is pretty great. While I respect his ability to vary voices and settings; some stories feel like they work much better than others. On the other hand, if they were all like the more effective, maybe they'd be no more effective. Story collections are weird like that. Never read one that was all killer, I don't think.
