Pauline Calkin I got about a third of the way through and got bored so I set it aside.

Kathy I was seriously considering reading it, but when I got it I found that it's written in that first person present tense which I really, really don't care for. So it's set aside for now.

That’s probably the reason I got bored. Don’t have a problem with first person, but present tense makes the narrative for limiting. I really didn’t want to read about every stray thought that Cecily’s mind

Kathy It's one of the reasons I find PG's book uninteresting. (Have I said how much I dislike first person/present tense?)

Elena I generally agree with you both, it's not much about the first person (Cecily by Annie Garthwaith is in first person too but I loved it), it's about the present tense. Anyway I'm still through it and so far I'm not disliking it...certainly the writing is better than PG Lol, though I tought it better, there are also many historical mistakes which point to not so much reasearch on the author's part. I will only cite the strangest... Cecily considered as a potential bride for her first cousin John de la Pole, which in reality was married since the 1470s. The charachterization is interesting though... I will let you know my thoughts when I finish it, and in truth is taking me a long time...

Kathy Looking forward to reading those thoughts. 😊

Like Kathy, I will be interested in reading your thoughts. I might have to force myself to finish the book!
