I think I started reading this book long ago and then lost track of it. If I'm right, then at some point there will be a celebratory historical reenactment of the first manned (moon?) space flight on a distant planet, NASA-style. I'm writing this down before I read it just in case.

I just finished Exodus: Empires at War: Book 1 and gave it 4 stars. This book started out almost identically to how I remembered it when I must have read the sample way back. But there was no historical launch and the celebration seemed much downplayed, unless this was a revised version. Otherwise it was as I remembered. I must have it confused with another book.
