The main character grad student is passive (doesn't take much initiative) and obsessed with looks but criticizes the rich women (mostly) and men he is around. The hypocrisy is not great and it never felt like we ever engaged with the actual story. We kept jumping back and forth between present day and commentary from the narrator in the future is jarring. 70% done and I keep waiting on the book to get started.
