Literally used Twilight and Fifty Shades of Grey as an example of the gendered interplay between Venusian femininity (civil society) and Martian masculinity (states of exception/martial law). LOVE

“The state of exception is not fixed nor separate from society but is a social space that hangs around Mars figures. Borders do not exist between countries but are felt and perceived in schools, hospitals, and shopping malls, and on the street.”

“[My uncle] lights three cigarettes for my great-grandpa. My mom complains that he died of smoking in the first place, so why force him to smoke in death? My uncle replies that, if he’s already dead, to just let the man smoke. He lights three cigarettes for my grandmother. My mom asks him why, because she never smoked when alive. He brushes her off & says she should enjoy herself in death.” This is so real…

Currently learning about Saturn’s rulership of the land before political/civil life. Interesting arguments about Saturn & white Utopianism/idealization of agrarianism.

The denseness of this book becomes tiresome because the references to historical events, post colonial terms, and their relation to power/astrology are not expressed in concise, accessible terms. This reads VERY academic.
