Daniel R. Pinto Scholarship has progressed enormously since the early 1970s, when this book was written. And yet, it remains indispensable. It's a wonderful read, gives you that "you are there" feeling, describes military moves very clearly and is full of anecdotes you will never forget. Besides, at that time, many eyewitnesses and veterans and civilians that had been through the siege and the encirclement were still alive, and Craig could interview many of them. Don't give up on Beevor and other more recent histories, but please don't let this one pass.
