Book 2 had a lot of gentle character work going on for its ensemble, which turns out to have been merely a cooldown to ramp the horror way back up in this volume. Not that I’m complaining! But I’m also worried about how everyone is going to fare against the coming storm. :3

Just when I think this series can’t get more surprising, the first scene of chapter 31 “skin and bones” throws several of my foundational assumptions out the window and has some truly heart rending dialogue besides. From the beginning I’ve never been able to tell if the ultimate trajectory of this series is to end with Dorley Hall destroyed, and I still can’t. But…I hope it does survive.

"I suspect we'll be drinking heavily, too," Indira says, pretending offence.
"Because you're watching all the Shreks?"
Melissa asks.
"Yes," says Christine.
