I don't normally update as I go, but this time feels warranted. 74 pages in and it has been a bit of a slog. I know it's going to get good, but so far Roth seems struck by that Modernist affliction of needing to chart every small detail of the narrator's psyche, and his perceptions of his contemporaries' psyches, on repeat and ad nauseum.
