I've seen this happen before..and I've given it waaaay too much thought over the years. I think most narrators have a voice that's their "dominant" voice, that's easy to do over long periods of time within a story. So a side character with only a few lines can have a weird sound or accent because they only have to do it infrequently. But when reading the text long term they need to do a voice that is almost thoughtless. Instinctual. Not sure if I'm making sense... but I can only assume he said to himself, I can't maintain that amazing Ukranian accent for hours and hours.. So he gave that MC his "easy to do for hours and hours" voice. His dominant accent/voice. I may understand it. But I don't like it. Maks' accent was deeeelicious... ::weeps for the loss of what could have been::

Yes, I see your point. You might be right, it IS pretty hard to to do an accent that doesn’t come natural to you for long periods of time.
