@Ben Graham pretty good! It can be quite dry in large passages but it can really hit it's stride when commenting on the political dynamics of the revolutionary period (e.g. how much fragmentation, personality and internal distrust existed within the "pro treaty side"). About 1/3 of the way through right now and it's probably at its most boring (1923 election, after civil war and before the army mutiny). Interested to see how Ferriter deals with Regan in his civil war book and need to go back and reread the historiography section of A nation not a rabble. Regan seems to have earned a lot of goodwill with the unique views he puts forward in this book and then gone overboard with Myth & the Irish State (at least according to one Irish time review). Definitely better than one or two of the books I've read on the period that are just dry summaries of events. Politics of the Irish civil war by Bill kissane might suit you because it feels like a reading right out of political violence xD
