Forward by Tom Blanton sets the tone—one may be forgiven for mistaking they are embarking on a spy thriller fiction. Jones sets the context by jumping into the immediate precursor to the titular event, which I appreciate. The author’s remarkable scholarship (scans, declassified docs, FOIA requests) deserves much commendation. Also worth commending his respect for the reader by neglecting tertiary speculation.
