This page really hit me hard.
It’s so much heavier now she’s left the war than the war itself.
The bit about “Had her mother just equated her war service to her brothers death?”
Was a gut punch. Like her contributions are an awful thing.
And then the Hope chest mentioned on the same page. Them filling it since she was 8 - as if marriage was all she’d ever do.
This page made me so sad and sickened.
