The more I read, the more impressed I am with the writing style the author used. The majority of the book is a series of discussions the author has with members of his family in Pakistan. It is an effective device.

Before starting this book, I knew that there were Sunni and Shia Muslims, but I did not know that there are also Ahmadi Muslims. I suppose I had assumed that Islam was monolithic and immune to the schisms and divisions that have led to the many varieties of Christianity. I also did not realize that early in Pakistan's history as a country, they supported religious freedom. It was only in the 70s that this changed.
