this is just as hilarious and inventive as Vol 3 but in different ways - the Moomins accidentally invent a time machine while trying to fix their sewing machine so they go back in time first to the Wild West where everything is turning into a tourist trap, then to 18th century France where Snorkmaiden ends up sewing hats for the revolutionaries allowing Jansen to engage in a lot of hilarious political satire

done with the "Comet in Moominvalley" story arc, clearly a callback to the everything-and-the-kitchensink storytelling Jansson used in the early Moomin comic strips but feels way less awkward thanks to the more consistent characterisation - Jansson's artwork is also at her very best here
