The mc is too acerbic and arrogant (mean? harsh?) for me to ever want to be his friend, but his characterization is real and vibrant; I'm interested in his happiness despite not personally wanting to be his friend. I can empathize with the ass. The story is engaging and many around him are likeable--john, his BFF, and several of his "experiment" date men.
