the irony is Benjamin is not actually 50

Unironically, genuinely agree with this exact sentiment about this exact age

wow this is different. While the movie was tragic and touching, the short story (the original) is bleak. Characterizes what is means to be a controlling parent who doesn't want one's child to grow up
