Of all the twisted little horrors Jay has written, Lilidh has always been my favourite 😌

Trust Jay to write such heartwarming heartbreak whilst shit is hitting the fan so mightily.

"My darling," he said as if speaking to an angel.
"My dearest," she replied as if the word hurt to say.
"Ye look... different."
"You look exactly the same."

Just give me all, literally ALL, the doomed vampiric romances. All!

"So where were we," she whispered. "A houndboy and his Ever After. A capitaine and a blackthumb. A Grail and a worm. Strange the way the pieces fit. Stranger still the way they fall apart. To think the world's fate rested upon so few shoulders. So small. So young."

These glorious transitions! They are to live for!

"I loved her, Ash. I can't help it. I loved Astrid then, and I love her still."
Her voice softened then, musical and sweet in my mind.
"I know it. Ye had something most men n-never possess. Yet I knew thy b-bride also, Gabriel. And never would Astrid have asked ye to mournmourn her eternal. To cut thyself off from all life and love. To suffocate on the past instead of b-breathing here and now."

Not crying.

"You two, come forth," he demanded. "Only you two. And if you move sudden, vile temptress, I swear you'll not move again."
'I nodded to the gates. "After you, vile temptress."
"Should've left ye on that damned mountain ..."

"Perhaps I should leave the question mark off in future, and see if you actually do what you're fucking told."
