The first male author's story was not the titular tone I wanted of this book. A happy ending but at the tail end of unpleasantness. The second, lady author's story sounds much more up my alley: kittens enhancing an uncertain woman's life.

The second was not to my liking either. Perhaps the remainder of this seasonal book has happy stories, without the need for dourness to convey it.
