I’m not enjoying how Ballard writes supporting characters. They seem fake and exaggerated, they talk like early 2000s video game NPCs giving not-so-subtle hints to the player about future quests.
I dunno. I should’ve started reading Ballard’s work with Crash, probably.

All interactions are insufferable to read. It’s such a shame, otherwise Ballard is a gifted writer. But he has no sense of bounds or control. Every character is too articulate, too infallible, lacking in any sense of hesitation that would help suspend disbelief in the reader.
