The first 9-10 chapters of this book are poorly plotted outline that are quick and difficult to digest. It is entirely plausible that the author started writing at part 2 and then was forced at the last minute to write part 1, but didn’t have it in her heart to actually write that bit, so it was just left in the flushed out outline phase. I recommend starting this at part 2 and going back to part 1 if you like.
