Also really like the memory disc being used as plot device fir both furthering her understanding and Megans

I do like the main characters arc. It still feels a little like the author is trying to fit too many topics in and it's a bit heavy handed for the age group and page count. There's some tense scenes but then the 2D villain explains himself and disappeared. Then there's the boy getting badly hurt, kinda violent for 9-12, and supposedly both being let out and serious surgery?at least its actually serious then.

However I do find it strange that the author chose to make her main characters people of colour because of resistance to radiation? And then to make them the ones othering humans? It could be an oversight but its an odd choice. Plus the references to needing to download music are cringe- couldn't they stream it?

This is a mixed bag for me. The tech is interesting (memory discs to store memory to free up brain), evolcing beyond a need for war or rudendss, and the book seems to trying to deal with topics like covid, farming and climate change abd concepts like racism that doesn't see the "other" as feeling the same,as important etc. I also am starting to like the main characters development.

Not sure about this.Concepts are interesting and there's alot bring taught about science, climate change etc through this utopian vibe but I can see the 'being human, where the beauty is in the flaws&short life' coming from a mile away along with the holes in this planets own story that feels like they may become the villain but I mostly hope that it doesn't make a point of genetic editing vs natural conception/Dna
