So far I am pleasantly surprised by this book! It is very readable and understandable. I'm not sure how much I'll retain, because just like in the Bible there are lots of groups of people named, and I can't keep them straight, but this book is pretty interesting, actually!

The First Crusade. Coincidentally they are currently discussing the Crusades on the History Channel. I should go watch that so I will have some sort of idea what will be going on in this book tomorrow morning!

Well, we've just covered Constantine, and now we're heading into territory I'm not very familiar with. We just discussed the Russian Orthodox Church. I'm starting to feel a little more lost, and a little more like the author is really writing for people who have a strong background in post-Roman European history. Still interesting, but more mental work is being required of me now.

I am glad for my smattering of church attendances, Bible as Literature course, and The History Channel, however, otherwise I'd already be lost.

I'm going to give this one a whirl. Recommended to me by my very religious, very smart, very academically minded friend. I'm a little unsure if this will be more than I bargained for, but we'll see. Might be interesting, but I do wonder if it will be a bit... too much for my less developed brain.
