. . . You should try it sometime,
this occupation of mine, with all its hallmarks
of saintliness. Who knows where it comes from.
I simply can’t remember not reading
and dreaming in letters.
Then I met a poet. Maybe my sacrifice
isn’t so huge. Besides—he quips—
just look at all the money and groupies
to keep me going.
