Say it ain’t so. Could this “classic “ end up in the DNF pile. Started this in September of 2023 and just started reading several books and had trouble getting back to this. Too many characters with the same damn name and just convoluted mini plots. I’ll try to go back but DNF is calling

I’m calling it. Officially DNF. I’m not sure if I’ll ever come back to this book, the thought of starting this over is quite unsettling.

Cristiane Relvas I read this 40 years ago and it was a slog to get through. Myabe you could try Mario Vargas Llosa. I enjoy him much more. I would start with his older books: Tia Julia and the Scriptwriter and Captain Pantoja and Special Service (this one is hilarious). I would stay away from Conversation in the Cathedral - it is the most difficult book I've ever read (too many switches of conversations between characters and time periods within the same page).

I appreciate the suggestions and I’m not throwing the towel in just yet, but I have received a standing 8 count 😀
