In the first essay Stoltenberg argues that sexual identity is a political idea, arguing against biological determinism. Current male ethics, according to him, is a 'rapist ethic', in the sense that male sexual identity leeches off the female one - that being a man requires dominating a woman. Stoltenberg substantiates this by pointing to female rape victims often being seen as provoking these acts, as perpetrators.
