Haven't been doing proper updates on this, but another banger from Knight. Some of his usual philosophical drawbacks, but of course leagues ahead of other historians of Marxism in Chinese aside from Marxists themselves and Arif Dirlik. Biggest issue thus far is his insistence on an insertion of Chinese tradition into Mao's thought that seems to me to be rhetoric on Mao's part. Regardless, very good thus far.

Wondering chapter destroying historical empiricism and much of the scholarship on Mao's thought and philosophy up to this point. Knight is one of those who I sure do wish was a committed Marxist—he would've been a great help to straightening some foolishness in Western Marxism out.
