Although not particularly graphic, some passages definitely get to me. “Jozia hanged herself. We cut down the body. The cooks, who just happened to be arriving with cauldrons of soup, scrambled to get hold of the length of rope, cut it and eagerly shared it out among themselves. A rope from a hanging is supposed to bring good luck.”
