Suzannah Rowntree is 48% done

This book continues to grow on me. It's absolutely WILD to see a match between allegory and futuristic fiction, but the odd pairing breathes life into the old allegorical form. I'm loving the update of Bunyan into dieselpunk post-apocalyptic costume & the updated imagery to fit 21stC issues (eg, prosperity gospel, ecocide, & religious violence). All in a plot-driven adventure? The perfect beach read tbh.

Loving the postapocalyptic vibes, the lean prose and the Australiannsss of the setting - it's very much Bunyan by way of DIRTY ROAD. But I'm having the trouble I have with a lot of allegory, which is that the literal/surface level of the story is being subordinated to the allegory. That said, some of the allegorical touches are GREAT.
