The pacing is truly odd. Alexis flutters to different events of the day at a breakneck pace. Not much time is spent dwelling on the feelings and when feelings are brought up it’s told rather than shown. Some of the dialogue is really good when other times it’s incredibly clunky and awkward. The premise of this book is interesting but it doesn’t flow naturally.

“The taste in my mouth was unlike anything I have ever tasted.”
The sentence I just read was unlike anything I’ve read….🙃

There’s potential here with many instances of this book. Just little glimmers of something compelling but then it’s smothered out by dull uninspired dialog and the “And then” writing format. So far this book is a decent idea with no flair or enticing execution.

Isn’t Alexis a book nerd? Why is she saying things like “…use my science knowledge to uncover evidence at a crime scene.” Rather than just say forensics investigator… the author also has her say “… got to go on a walk through with some real CSI’s…” that’s odd and doesn’t sound natural abbreviated in this context. The writing is presented more juvenile than YA.
