Gosh, the way Madoc is portrayed in the book is such a work of art. He’s so complex, with so many layers. It’s hard to hate him even if he is in fact a brutal monster.

I just can’t help but love how Holly Black managed to describe Jude’s fear of him while still seeing him as a parental figure. It’s beautifully done.

“It was good to be hugged. Even by a monster.”
