This is the stupidest explanation I've ever seen in a mystery novel.

I'm pretty sure this is the first time the main character's family has been mentioned?? He's been in town like 3 days and hasn't called his wife??

"He was like a murderer who kept letting his advocate down and shouting his guilt in the midst of an impassioned speech on his behalf before a judge and jury!"
