It's interesting to compare how i was educated about US colonialism and Western expansion, reading James Fenimore Cooper for school, learning about the trail of tears, as if there were no white people at the time saying "hey, Native Americans are people, ethnic cleansing is bad, maybe we can do stuff differently" - and only now learning about Lydia Maria Child, Maria Sedgwick, J Johnston Schoolcraft
