I actually really liked the strawberry festival chapter, despite hating most of the subplot, maybe because I was exhausted by the main plotline. But Mr. Spier bakes a strawberry chiffon cake that gets auctioned off. I love Mr. Spier. Are cake and chat rooms enough to win me over? Yes. Yes they are.

OH YEAH, BACK TO THE MAIN PLOT FOR A SEC: I do love that Stacey worries over Robert to the point of getting the flu.

MEANWHILE: STRAWBERRY PICKING. No one has the issues I have with it (spiders. spiders everywhere) and instead just can't HELP themselves and pick too much! Kristy decides to have a FESTIVAL and (shock) goes on a CHAT ROOM to get ideas from INTERNET PEOPLE. I never thought I would see something this cutting edge from the BSC. Linny shows her how to do this; internet safety is not even addressed. Ah, simple times.

...But the book acts like this is the whole solution. Ducky's books in California Diaries were overall a better portrayal of depression in regards to Alex.

Also, the fact this is a special issue book right after another special issue book is a little tiring.

This is the ONE BOOK (I'm exaggerating, there's probably like 3 other ones) where the moral of the story is TALK TO A TRUSTED ADULT. Robert talks to his coach to sort his life out, which is a good lesson. Unfortunately this also is treated like it clears up all his problems, even though he's clearly very bad off during a lot of this book. It's a very good starting point...

Stacey no longer speaks in questions, and it turns out that was greatly preferable to the rest of this book. The Robert stuff is actually kind of upsetting (screw his parents for blaming it on being a teenager). Meanwhile the Pike kids are TERRIBLE BRATS while picking berries, and Mallory does absolutely nothing to discipline them OR stay within her father's budget. Ugh.

So far (two chapters in) Stacey has decided to address us with questions 20% of the time. This is a book of neverending questions. I'm fed up with it already.
