I made up a new adjective, for this novel alone.
Because this novel isn't "bad."
Instead, it's: "faux-good."
Maybe it will surprise me by the end, though. I hope so. I loved White Tears, and although I didn't love Red Pill, I'm still thinking about it.

Karin, I’m so sorry, my disappointment in this novel spilleth over into my Goodreads feed…it seems I agree with Dwight Garner’s review at the NYT…BUT let it be known that this novel is in the “best reviewed books” column on the Bookmarks site this week, so my view is very much the minority…the novel will def make for a good discussion in June’s NLF…
oh dear!! I haven't started yet. I will be starting in early June most likely. A few library due dates on other books are staring me dead in the face.
couldn't stand this book either. in another one of your updates you mentioned the novel didn't even start until around 66% in. I got about 20% and just got sick of nothing really happening. Just flashbacks to some truly uninteresting situations with returns to the present day where also nothing interesting is happening.

My goodwill for Kunzru is abundant enough to get me to the end, easily, and I’ll read the next book, too. I’m trying to understand. I’ll probably read it over again just as soon as I get to the end. Just now the clichés are so abundant I’m wondering if they’re purposeful, sardonic.
